Which one would you choose? AAS String Studio VS-3, Spectrasonics Stylus RMX, Synthogy Ivory II Grand Pianos, or AAS Ultra Analog VA-3
I have the opportunity to receive one of the 4 following softwares from a distributoproduct club.
• AAS String Studio VS-3 ($99)
• Spectrasonics Stylus RMX ($399)
• Synthogy Ivory II Grand Pianos (12 month renewable license) ($349 - pretty sure standard license)
• AAS Ultra Analog VA-3 ($99)
I understand these are all totally different products, so I'm not looking for a comparison. If you would like to make a comparison, please recommend to me a competitor (like if you know another company's equivalent of the RMX, as some say it and it's sounds are dated, please tell me here).
Which one would you choose? The prices are wildly different, as you can see above. From a financial standpoint, it seems silly not to choose the RMX or the Grand Pianos. I'm not sure what "12 month renewable license" means yet, but if it means I only get this software for free for a year then, RMX it is.
Price aside, I'm personally battling between the AAS Ultra Analog VA-3, and the Spectrasonics Stylus RM.
My primary instrument is piano, and between my Yamahas, Rolands, and various plugins, I think I have enough pianos to allow me to look at other softwares besides the Synthogy Ivory II (plus, not sure but I think the 12 month renewable license means I only get to use it for 12 months).
The AAS String Studio seems really nice for people interested in strings but, I have yet to use strings often enough to not be able to make use out of the various instruments I already have.
The Ultra Analog VA-3 just seems really fun, I have never actually dug into any sort of analog synth or analog emulators, modeling....I don't even know the right terms, but I use synth leads all the time. Anything between sounds of Pink Floyd to Children of Bodom. It seems like this software could really help me learn hands on, and produce quality sounds (I'm certainly not versed in "quality synth" sounds, the youtube vids I saw sounded good to me) at the same time.
Drums/percussion is my secondary instrument. I currently own StevenSlateDrums5, and really enjoy the sounds (the lack of intuitive groove file names leaves something to be deserved, but I haven't dabbled much in this kind of software either so idk what others look like) out of that program. I've never tried SuperiorDrummer, but I'd love to own a copy. I actually really enjoy the 'Drummer' feature in Logic.
Naturally the description of the Stylus RMX really interested me, and I looked at a few videos. The capabilities seemed pretty cool, but didn't seem like something a DAW couldn't do. Then I saw the Time Editor and Chaos Editor, among other features, that again made it seem like this is a pretty cool tool with interesting functionality for on-the-fly variation. A few personal opinions I've read have stated that this software is overpriced, out-of-date, the sounds are old (If I can import/use the drums from SSD5 then I don't care about the old sound library kits/instruments), and the technology is replicated in other software...none of that sounds good. It being outdated and sounding honky-tonk-y is something that leans me away from this software. There were still positive reviews on the same threads.
Anyways, I have time, there is no rush. Just looking for opinions from users of these softwares.
Thank you for reading, and thank you in advance for your responses!
