To make a long story short, I've developed games for the past six years and recently took a better job outside of the game development industry. I personally own a lot of the necessary equipment and need a hobby to keep me busy during my now exceptionally hands-off, seasonal job that I am being paid on an annual salary for so I decided that finally taking a crack at VR gaming was the right move for me. This game will be completely FREE as I am just doing this because I have always loved KOTOR 2 and would kill to get any kind of immersive Star Wars game.
I will be rebuilding all of the KOTOR 2 planets/cities, characters, etc. in UE4. Since I've never been one to do something half-assed, I plan to completely redo the characters in the game using motion capture (I have about $5k worth of Perception Neuron mocap equipment laying around) but to still use the original audio/voice recordings from the original game. I've always been a lightsaber and weapon enthusiast so I will also be sure to make your weapon of choice as customizable as possible so when you're holding your blastelightsaber, it doesn't look identical to the enemies' around you.
The combat system/animations in the original game were quite enjoyable back in the day, but in VR, it sounds boring as shit to me. Luckily, I'm quite good at Frankensteining mechanics of other games together and smoothing them over so I am confident I will be able to give all of us lightsabers that block opponents' lightsabers/vibroblades and deflect blaster bolts. For all of you soldiers out there who wish to use blasters as your primary weapon: dual wielding pistols, shotguns, rifles, miniguns, etc. will all be available. Force powers will be available as well, although there may be a few I am unable to keep in the game.
Your followers will be as customizable as they were in the original game and almost Skyrim-esque in terms of what they are capable of, and as previously stated, all of the dialogue/voices with be taken from the original KOTOR2.
This is usually where the developer says that it is just a hobby, not to rush them, and it could take 5 or more years to finish this and never actually does. Well fuck that. It will likely take me about 6 months to develop the new combat system and then I can start plowing away at the rest of the game and have a finished product by Spring 2020 (I'll release my schedule in detail once I finish it in a few days). If you're as impatient as I am, do not worry. I plan to release Peragus by itself to begin Beta testing, then release Telos soon after that as standalone games to hold you over until I finish the rest of the game. What I Need From You....
SUGGESTIONS. I can brainstorm all day long and probably not come up with 10% of the cool shit and time-saving ideas you all could so throw it all at me, no matter how wild, obvious, or potentially meaningless it seems. Obviously any ways to avoid me getting dick-slapped with trademark/copyright infringement notices is helpful. I hope that not releasing the game for money as well as trying to classify this whole endeavor more as a VR mod with many other mods attached rather than a remake will help.
